Ship Design

Here is my ship design, after going through many thumbnails, I have decided to go with this design. The ship is supposed to resemble a sperm whale. Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks.

Turkish Ship Progress

Does the character go with the ship? Based in the Ottoman empire, more towards the turkish region. I'm hoping to get some opinions before I decide if I want to scrap it. Thanks in advance.

Ship Ideations

ship sketch

Hey all, here is a VERY rough sketch of the direction I am headed with the ship. Since it isn't Ahab's ship, I wanted it to be less of a reflection of my character, and more of an influence on her. I want it to inspire insanity. I am going with more of a pointy sail look. I have my rough sketch with triangle sails, and also a more cleaned up version with a more realistic take on the sails. I am still leaning toward triangles, but would like some opinions. This isn't going to be the final drawing, just an exploration of the design. Thanks!

Still a work in progress any feed back at all i would really appreciate it. thanks

Sighting sequence revisions

Hi everyone. I made some changes to my "sighting" sequence. These are roughly timed out. My intent is to show that Ahab's daughter has to put up with some rough situations in her pursuit of moby, but she's tough and capable.

Anything you guys have to say is appreciated. Thanks!

character design

Crits please. Main Story: a "moby dick" whale/ creature hunter from Northern Russia Siberia during the mid 19th cent. He is looked up to by his tribe, the Nenets. His people are facing tough times and he feels responsible to hunt the whale for his people's survival. I will be reworking the pose..so anything else would be great. thanks in advance.

Azzam, Son of Ahab

Here is Azzam, the bastard son of Ahab. Born to a young Tripoli mother, left to fend for himself and burdened with the weight of his father's bad reputation, Azzam turns inward to his demons and takes up his father's mantle in an attempt to quell the addicting obsession that is his search for Moby Dick. Cheers!

Akim

This is Akim. I wanted to show him in the snow confronting the giant Walrus (Moby Dick). This still needs a lot of work, but it's what I have so far. Any suggestions would be great.

Color comps

Hey everybody, where did the day go?? :} Well, here are a few of my comps I redrew my character and tried to simplify her shapes. I am leaning towards 1,8 and I like 7. Some people like 5 as well. She is half Aleut and half English, from the Aleutian Islands between Alaska and Russia. She has major daddy issues, her coat was Ahab's she retrofitted it for the polar regions where she sails her ship. Any comments are welcome! Thank you!

Been doing some painting, but feeling pretty stuck at this point and am not sure where to go next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

finished line drawing

Here is my son of Ahab so far. I'm currently working on paint and color, but I wanted to see if there was anything that y'all saw that needed changing. I want him to seem a bit volcanic but coming from a background of pain and wandering. He's lived on Easter Island for years and found his fathers old ship washed up on a deserted side of the island. At this point he's charged up and going after Moby. The spearpoint is made out of Obsidian- a volcanic rock. Crits on design choices or anatomy or anything would be great. OHHH, and He's stepping up onto a gang plank to board his ship although its not drawn in here. Thanks!!!

Sighting Sequence

This is a rough first pass of my "sighting" sequence. The setup is that the daughter of Ahab has disguised herself as a man in order to get on this whaling ship.

These aren't to time yet so it's kind of like watching it in slow motion. If you can bear with it, please let me know if it's confusing or unclear or at all comprehensible. All comments, suggestions, observations are appreciated.

Here's the first version. The "sighting" is only implied by the dialogue.

Here is an alternate version, where Moby is actually onscreen.

If you actually sit through both versions, please let me know which you feel is the better sequence. Thanks!

Hi all... this is what I have so far.. any critiques would be great! Thanks.

Another post. if you guys don't remember my characters personality, he's a tired/mildly depressed 38 yr old, who is unhappy with his current life, but he changes and becomes more hopeful as his adventure to hunt moby dick continues.
also i'm not really sure whats really due for sat. can anyone clear it up for me :/

Re: Liz

Just a quick doodle. Something with a little more full extension. I'm sure this could be more dynamic too.
Hey guys, I have been trying to flesh out my character's pose before painting. I want to be a bit mad with obsession, without losing all of her mental capacities. I'd love to hear what people think!

Breaking the ice on the 2010 BFA blog....Here is my first crack at a color
comp for my final character paint job.
Any suggestions are welcome.

BFA 2010!

Wow, I still have permissions!! Hah! Basically I wanted to tell everyone out there that I just had lunch with some alumni from various companies in the industry and they are checking out your work on this blog and others. No pressure. Hey everybody,
Just a heads up, some of us were talking about having a quick crit of progress so far for BFA in the Viz Dev room after Nino's class is out. Come if you want some feed back on your work.
